That the Japanese GP in Suzuka would be difficult for the Ferraris was clear on the eve of the race, but complicating matters could be the crazy weather, aided by the expected arrival of Typhoon Hagibis, because of which Saturday’s track day has already been canceled.

In Friday’s free practice, the Reds accused important gaps from Mercedes, but Sebastian Vettel is confident precisely in unpredictable weather conditions: “Sunday will be a special day, I don’t really know what the conditions will be like, but I hope they will be a little crazy because this could help us – the German’s opinion – It will be an intense battle with both Mercedes and Verstappen.”

This is Vettel’s comment on the practice day: “I’m not sure what we are missing, personally at the driving level I have to do something more. The balance doesn’t seem so bad, but in general we have little grip compared to what we expected. I didn’t look at everyone’s pace, I think mine wasn’t that bad, especially compared to Red Bull’s. Mercedes seems objectively further ahead.”
