The Belgian GP lasted only two laps

He was the real star of the Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix. More than the drivers. It was race director Michael Masi, who was keen to explain the difficult decisions made on the afternoon at Spa-Francorchamps.

“Unfortunately, on this occasion we could not reach the full race distance,” Masi told Sky Sports. “We were in constant contact with our official weather forecast provider. There was a window that seemed to have opened and so we were able to give the 10-minute warning. Our plan was to try to take advantage of that window. Then the weather got the better of us again.”

For the race director, there was absolutely no way the race could be postponed to another date: “There was no way we could postpone the race to tomorrow, there was a whole list of reasons why we couldn’t postpone it,” Masi’s words. “There is disappointment on everyone’s part, we tried to do the best we could. We looked for the best possible opportunity to finish the race within the regulations.”
