European Championships: Filippo Ganna, confidence grows after first gold medal

“For Thursday I have good feelings, I have to recover well.”
With the first time trials, the UEC European Road Championships opened Wednesday in Trento, Italy, which will close Sunday 12 with the Elite men’s road race and will award a total of 13 continental titles over the five days.
On the first day, Italy took the title in the Mixed Relay by dominating the event with Filippo Ganna, Mattia Sobrero and Alessandro De Marchi first, Elena Cecchini, Marta Cavalli and Elisa Longo Borghini. The Italian lineup was in the lead from the first bars and maintained a constant lead over Germany and the Netherlands at every time reference of the 44.8-kilometer course (22.4 kilometers per round), finishing in 51’59” at an average of 51.710 km/h.
These are the words of Filippo Ganna: “We are very happy, it was an important gold, ours was a great performance. It was important to start this event in the best way. I hope this fantastic medal will be a good omen for Italy. For Thursday I have good feelings, I have to recover well. Hopefully we can collect everything we can.”
