Matteo Berrettini tries to fight back after sports drama: “I will come back stronger”
Finalist last year at Wimbledon
It could have been his moment, his big chance to try to win his first career Slam. However, Matteo Berrettini will not be able to be on the court in this edition of Wimbledon due to Covid positivity.
The Roman tennis player himself shared the bad news with his fans: “I am heartbroken to announce that I have to withdraw from Wimbledon, being Covid positive,” Berrettini wrote on Instagram. I have had flu symptoms and have been in isolation for the last few days. I have no words to describe the extreme disappointment I feel. The dream is over for this year, but I will come back stronger.”
An excruciating mockery for Berrettini, who had reached the final against Novak Djokovic last season. And who in recent weeks had prepared himself great with victories on grass in both Stuttgart and Queen’s. The date with Wimbledon is now postponed until 2023.
