No Tour for Julian Alaphilippe: world champion makes no secret of disappointment
The rainbow champion will not be at the start of the Grande Boucle
Julian Alaphilippe, the reigning world cycling champion, will not be at the start of the Tour de France 2022, which will start outside the borders (in Denmark) next July 1. In the list of names chosen by Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl, in fact, there is not that of the transalpine athlete: a “suffered decision,” as explained by sports director Tom Steels, on which weighs a condition not at 100 percent due to the long stop following the fall at Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
To the team channels, Alaphilippe himself did not hide his disappointment, while accepting the decision of Steels and his collaborators: “I am disappointed because I will not be at the Tour de France this year,” explained the holder of the rainbow jersey. “I am naturally fond of this race, I spent days in the yellow jersey in the last three editions, won stages and collected beautiful memories with my teammates. It is sad that I cannot wear my world champion’s jersey in my country, but I know it was not an easy decision for the team.”
