Nelson Piquet justifies himself after Lewis Hamilton’s nasty definition
Nelson Piquet justifies and apologizes
Nelson Piquet chose the communiqué route to express his views on the unpleasant outing on Lewis Hamilton.
“What I said was misconceived, and I’m not defending myself for it, but the term used was widely and historically used colloquially in Portuguese as a synonym for ‘type’ or ‘person’ and was never intended to offend,” the former world champion said. I would never use the word that was put in my mouth in some translations. I sincerely apologize to anyone who was affected, including Lewis, who is an incredible driver, but the translation that appears in some media and is now circulating on social media is incorrect. I strongly condemn those who claim that the word was used by me for the purpose of denigrating a driver because of the color of his skin.”
