Sonego continues his march

There is no stopping Lorenzo Sonego. After defeating the U.S. Kudla in the ‘marathon’ opener, the Piedmontese tennis player managed to get the better of the surprising Frenchman Hugo Gaston, who had overcome the Australian Popyrin in the first round.

The match between the Italian and the 21-year-old transalpine lasted just under 2 hours and 30 minutes and ended 3-0 in favor of our holder (7-6, 6-4, 6-4), who had already beaten Gaston on two occasions: in Montpellier in 2021 and in Sydney in 2022.

Despite the clear imposition, Sonego still struggled against a tough opponent, who forced the Turinese to the tie-break in the first set (won by the Italian 7-4), and then fought back with all possible means in the next two.
