La Fiorita-Tre Fiori: soccer restarts in San Marino
Supercup up for grabs
San Marino’s soccer clubs returned to the field, starting last Monday, to approach the new domestic season in the best possible way. With the exception of Tre Fiori, La Fiorita and Tre Penne – which hardly stopped due to commitments in the Champions and Conference League – the other 12 teams returned to savor the playing fields over the course of this week.
Taking the veils off the 2022-23 San Marino soccer season will be the Super Cup, involving title holders La Fiorita and the latest winners of the Titan Cup – the Three Flowers. The date is for Tuesday, August 30 at Acquaviva Stadium (kickoff at 8:45 p.m.). The two yellow-blue formations have been the big stars of recent seasons, having got their hands on ten of the twelve titles awarded from 2018 to date. The only exceptions are Tre Penne and Folgore, San Marino champions in 2019 and 2021. Otherwise, a roll of honor with strong shades of yellow and blue and which will be updated in just over three weeks with the awarding of the first trophy of the year: it remains to be seen whether the Super Cup will go the way of Fiorentino or the way for Montegiardino.
Barring unforeseen events, the San Marino season for the remaining thirteen teams will begin the weekend immediately following, with the first day of the championship. It is worth remembering that the race for the scudetto, starting this year, will be decided entirely in the 30-day regular season. In fact, the leading team will hold the title of San Marino champion and will play in the preliminary round of the next Champions League, while the play-off phase will be decisive in electing the formation that – thanks to the results obtained in the championship – will access the First Qualifying Round of the Europa Conference League. The other, as always, will be the winner of the Titan Cup.
