Carlos Alcaraz ready to break Italian curse
Spaniard promises to break ‘Italian curse’
Carlos Alcaraz, with ‘La Gazzetta dello Sport,’ spoke not only about the rivalry with Jannik Sinner, whose latest chapter was consummated in the Umag final with the victory of the South Tyrolean, but also about the so-called ‘Italian curse,’ his negative record against tennis players from the Bel Paese.
“Italians have been giving me a few too many sorrows lately,” said, bluntly, the Iberian athlete, who also lost to the San Candido native at Wimbledon, in the round of 16. First Berrettini, then Musetti and twice Sinner. They are all very strong players with completely different characteristics. They really gave me a hard time, although in some cases I missed the victory by some small detail. Against them I can and want to win in the future.”
“Sinner is definitely the one who surprised me the most,” he added, “because of the way he is on the court and the level of aggression he manages to express in every exchange. On the court we battle each other but off the court we are friends.”
