The words of Adriano Galliani

Adriano Galliani, Monza’s CEO, gave a long interview to Tuttosport. “It’s a market son of my way of seeing things: Serie C is one sport, Serie B is another sport and Serie A is yet another sport. And Champions is further another sport. I am a basketball fan and I know that there are: the Italian league, the Euroleague and the NBA, that is three different sports from each other. We took Monza, which until June 30, 2017 was in the Amateurs, it was clear and obvious that the players who were there were not going to win the C Series, so with all the affection and gratitude, we had to change them. So today, we have to change some of those who won the B, many of whom would struggle in Serie A. It’s clear that the policy has changed: when you have a stable team at the top places, as our Milan was, you only need two or three tweaks, but changing category every year you have to change. I am in love with every sport and I have realized that the bar is raised.”

“First of all I say that in case there was an advantage to having Italians, I am very sorry to have it, because to miss the World Cup twice is crazy. I would have preferred to see the Italians get tired in Qatar. However, our Italian choice starts from other assumptions: it is a precise philosophy of President Berlusconi, which I share. Foreigners take time to settle in, so since the first part of the season is very compressed, with lots of matches, the risk is that before they settle in we are already relegated. Of course then there is also the World Cup factor that can be distracting.”

The goal is ambitious: “Tenth place. I know it is difficult, but having been an entrepreneur in life I know that you have to set goals, so I say tenth place.”
