Jannik Sinner makes no peace after elimination in Montreal
Bad defeat for the South Tyrolean, no quarters
It was not at all fruitful, for Italian tennis, the night between Thursday and Friday: Jannik Sinner, the only Italian left in the Montreal Masters 1000 tournament draw, was in fact defeated in the round of 16 by Pablo Carreño Busta 6-2, 6-4, in a match controlled without particular difficulty by the Spaniard who had already faced and beaten one of the standard bearers of Italian tennis, Matteo Berrettini, in the first round.
On the sidelines of the match, Sinner made no excuses for the result that prevents him from entering the top eight of the tournament: “I couldn’t find any solution,” he said, “I didn’t play well, he on the other hand served well making very few mistakes.
“I did not serve very well, especially in the first set,” Sinner added, pointing further. I made a few too many mistakes in the forehand and went out of rhythm and out of time with the other shots as well.”
So it will be Carreño Busta who will continue his adventure on the Canadian cement: in the quarters he will find Jack Draper (No. 82 ATP), who made it through the round of 16 also taking advantage of the precarious physical condition of Gael Monfils, who was forced to retire when he was down 6-2, 2-0 anyway.
