The words of Ettore Messina

Ettore Messina, coach of Olimpia Milano, gave an interview to La Repubblica but there was no talk of basketball.

“How can one remain indifferent and not perceive the rapidity with which the climate changes around us? How can one not see the drought drying up our rivers, the glaciers melting, or the water of our vacation woes getting hotter and hotter? It seems clear to me that it is no longer the time for controversy; it is time to find a common solution. What baffles me most about the political response to this emergency is precisely the proceeding in short order, not supporting those who have solutions and proposals just because they are not from your parish. From arms we are witnessing this politics, the true antithesis of civil coexistence, which never evaluates whether a project is good and indispensable for the country, but only who carries it out. An overall vision is indispensable, putting the emergency as a priority. Instead, the debate develops only on the people to be included in lists and coalitions. I said to myself, “Nature is looking for solutions, we are not, we are not doing anything to mitigate the effects of global warming.” I am just a frightened ignoramus, trying to inform myself. I was impressed that scientists who are different from each other even in political culture came together to show us the way to unity. As far as I’m concerned, however, it’s a path I’m on my own, I haven’t asked anyone to sign, not even my wife, if she feels she will.”
