Inter responds to Milan

In the evening matches on the first Saturday of Serie A 2022/23, Inter beat a willing Lecce 2-1 at the last gasp, while at the Brianteo Torino found themselves at the right time after the well-known internal discontent and ruined Monza’s absolute debut in A, winning in turn by two goals to one.

The match in Salento’s land starts in well for Simone Inzaghi’s men, who are forced to win to avoid finishing immediately behind their Milan cousins: in fact, just 100 seconds are enough for Romelu Lukaku to find the first goal of his second Nerazzurri adventure, making it 1-0. Everything changed in the second half, however: on one of Lecce’s counterattacking sorties, newcomer Assan Ceesay signed his first goal in Italy, surprising Handanovic to make it 1-1.

Inter tried everything until the end and came out on top just in the last minute: on convulsive action from a corner kick, the ball bounced off Dumfries and caromed into the net behind Falcone for 2-1. The triple whistle came just after the goal’s regularity was confirmed via Var.

The league opener does not go well either for the other newly promoted team engaged in the evening, the renewed Monza led on the bench by Giovanni Stroppa: Torino, in fact, put behind them the discontents of a complicated summer and won 2-1, dragged by new arrival Alexey Miranchuk, on goal in the 43rd minute, and by Toni Sanabria’s doubling, which virtually closed the accounts in the 66th minute. Useless, in the 94th minute, the 1-2 signed by Dany Mota, who nevertheless enters history for being the first scorer in A with the Monza jersey.

Three points, then, for Juric’s Toro, while to win the first points in A in their own history the Brianzoli will have to do the feat in Naples on the next day.
