Marcell Jacobs, coach reveals Olympic champion’s condition
“He runs free and has fun: that’s important.”
We are very close to the start of the European Athletics Championships, which will be held on this occasion in the fascinating theater of Munich’s Olympiastadion. After forfeiting during the world championships in Eugene, USA, Marcell Jacobs is itching to show everyone that he is still the fastest on the track.
Interviewed by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Paolo Camossi, the coach of the Italian Olympian, took stock of the situation: “Marcell is doing comforting workouts: he runs free, he has fun and it’s important. His feelings and my eyes count. He is loose, moving as he knows. Then he is demanding and never satisfied, but he is fine,” the coach began.
“We arrived in Munich a week before the 100-meter race to turn on the car lights a little at a time, to get into the race atmosphere as soon as possible, since he has had few races in recent months. As an Olympic champion, he has to leave to win, but repeating himself at this level is not easy. The 9″80 European record in Tokyo puts him 11th all-time. That’s a big time. Then there is the competition: you have to have respect,” Camossi concluded.
