Davis Cup, it’s stellar Italy with Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner
A veritable quintet of stars to represent the Azzurri.
Filippo Volandri has issued Italy’s call-ups for the Davis Cup. And the five chosen are of the highest level, as can be read in the note issued on the official Federtennis website.
“In view of the group stage of the Davis Cup by Rakuten Finals 2022, which will take place from September 13 to 18 on the fast-paced indoor courts of the Unipol Arena in Casalecchio di Reno, Bologna,” the statement reads, “the captain of the Italian national team, Filippo Volandri, has summoned the following players: Matteo Berrettini, Simone Bolelli, Fabio Fognini, Lorenzo Musetti, and Jannik Sinner.
“The one in Bologna is a very tough round, probably one of the most balanced, but at the same time very challenging,” said Volandri, captain of the Italian national team. “Meeting Croatia again, against whom we lost last year in Turin, will be an additional reason for revenge, and we will treasure the experience of 2021. I am sure that the team will be ready and give their best to achieve qualification to the quarters and thus fly to Malaga for the decisive stage.”
“June and July have seen our tennis players achieve beautiful successes in singles with Matteo, Lorenzo and Jannik, and we also have a competitive and close-knit doubles pair like the one composed of Fabio and Simone, who recently won the tournament in Umag and played the final in Bastad: it is no coincidence that they are in the running for qualification to the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin in doubles,” Volandri added.
