Marcell Jacobs did not spare a stylistic jab at critics after winning the European Championships

Gold in the 100 meters at the European Athletics Championships redeemed Marcell Jacobs’ season, which was marred in the early months by many injuries that held him back and forced him to forfeit the World Championships: “It’s been a complicated few months, winning gold is exciting and gives me confidence. I’m not fully satisfied with the race, I probably ran better in the semifinals and in the final I felt some tension. That’s okay, the important thing was to finish ahead of everyone.”

Jacobs did not spare a dig at the critics, who were not lacking in these complicated months: “Thanks to those who cheered for me and always supported me, but thanks also to those who are against me and give me the energy to prove that I am the strongest. Half of the people thought I would not even start, winning the gold makes me realize that the little work we managed to do is working and I can continue to do great things. Now we will try to give satisfaction in the 4×100 as well.”
