Three-month contract with option until the end of the year for the Pole

Mateusz Ponitka is the new reinforcement of Pallacanestro Reggiana for the 2022/23 season. The announcement was made by the Red and White club itself, which specified how the Polish athlete signed a three-month contract with an option for extension until the end of the sports year.

Ponitka is back from significant international experience: in the last three years, in fact, he played in Russia first at Zenit and then at Lokomotiv Kuban, in Spain at Gran Canaria and in Turkey at Pinar Karsiyaka.

“When the opportunity arose to sign a player of Ponitka’s caliber, we immediately seized an opportunity that in our opinion was favorable for both parties,” said Pallacanestro Reggiana sporting director Filippo Barozzi to the club’s official channels. “We were looking for a player who could help us in this beginning of the season to make up for the absences of Olisevicius and Strautins, Mateusz was aiming for a situation that could give him confidence and visibility. We are convinced that he will be of great help not only because of his technical qualities as a ball-handler with physical size, but also because of his great international experience and versatility that allows him to play multiple positions.”

“I am really elated to be able to play in Italy with Pallacanestro Reggiana,” Ponitka himself later said, “My only goal is to come to the red and white and be the best version of myself, on and off the court, to help the team win. To work hard and have fun. I look forward to meeting teammates and fans.”
