Jannik Sinner, after Cincinnati even ATP Finals get complicated
There is another heavy effect after the thumps in Montreal and Cincinnati.
Jannik Sinner saw a streak of extremely positive results that had characterized his 2022 so far come to a halt in America. After quarterfinals at Wimbledon and a triumph in Umag, the South Tyrolean strung together a win and two losses that could also weigh heavily in the run up to the ATP Finals in Turin.
Sinner has indeed clearly slowed down in the ranking, but also in the Race to the ATP Finals. In fact, he is currently in 15th place, behind even Matteo Berrettini. A position that definitely distances him from the places available to participate in the awaited event in Turin. A situation certainly not foreseeable until a few weeks ago, and one to be reckoned with now.
Sinner is currently 13th in the world rankings, also bypassed by Taylor Fritz. Ahead of Turin he will also have to try to set his run on Felix Auger Aliassime and Cameron Norrie, but the feat appears nontrivial.
