Mertens is nostalgic

A nostalgic Dries Mertens, interviewed by Dazn, spoke about his farewell to Napoli, where he played for nine seasons.

“My wife woke up one day and started crying because she didn’t want to leave the house in Naples. So I told her we would keep it and as soon as we have two free days we will go back there. To those who don’t know the city, I say that being the club’s top scorer is very nice: it’s been nine wonderful years, I’ve met extraordinary people. I was lucky to find all these things here, for nine years I enjoyed it and I can only say thank you. I tried to do that with a little video, but we will come back often because it is home. We would like to enjoy Naples again in the future. I am always a positive guy and I say thank you for the nine years. I have been delighted and I am the first Napoli fan, I always will be. Surely it could have ended differently by announcing things earlier. The club can learn from these things and still grow,” explained the Belgian striker.

Then Mertens commented on his first days as a player with the Turkish club: “The impact was good, leaving Naples was hard but I found here I have a new adventure. My family and I are enjoying it. The city is very big, we are still looking for a house, we hope to find it as soon as possible, but it is a new adventure for me in a very big club. The stadium is also very nice.”
