25km chaos, Matteo Furlan is still enraged and rehashes the dose
The swimmer from Friuli is still angry as hell
Although several days have passed and, more importantly, there is no turning back on the decision, Matteo Furlan is still furious about the confusion among the judges that led to the interruption of the 25-kilometer open water event at the European Swimming Championships-a race that the swimmer from Friuli was dominating.
“Have I blown off steam? Absolutely not,” he told the ‘Messaggero Veneto,’ “I am nervous, angry and disappointed by what happened. Len’s judges behaved in an unspeakable way, showing that they were not up to the task. Such a thing had never happened in the past: it was an unprecedented episode.”
As many as five, between the men’s and women’s competitions, medals that the blue team would have won if the result had been approved at the time of the interruption. “It’s something outrageous, which really makes you lose the desire to compete,” Furlan concluded. “They should have photographed the positions and then stopped the athletes; instead they behaved in an unspeakable manner. Some threw away an entire season, others, like me, a chance for revenge after a not good world championship.”
