During his interview with Tennis Magazine, Todd Martin highlighted the difference from the tennis of his years, “I lost Slam finals to Agassi and Sampras, but we are talking about real phenomena. Compared to the past now all nations have a chance, this is one of the biggest difficulties in American tennis, someone like Pete Sampras would never resign himself to being one of many, he wanted to be number one.”
The U.S. former world No. 4 then resoundingly ignored Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz: “Among the young talents on the circuit the one I like the most is Felix Auger Aliassime, he’s 21 years old and he’s the one I think has the most room for improvement. Also, he is a really good guy, very humble and polite.”
“I have often been put on the same level as tennis players like Nalbandian and Rios, all of us have never won Slams. I had a big chance at Wimbledon 1996, in the semifinals against Malivai and Washington, that tournament was won by Richard Krajicek and I think I would have had a chance,” Martin concluded.
