F1, Ferrari: Charles Leclerc left speechless
“We hoped to be faster, but there was little we could do.”
Having finished fifth across the line but then relegated to sixth due to a five-second penalty imposed for speeding in the pit lane, Charles Leclerc is still chewing bitterly. Defending champion Max Verstappen, who started 14th on the grid, completed an outstanding comeback by also winning at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit. The domination of the Red Bulls, which also placed Sergio Perez in second place, was also apparent to the Red Bull’s mongasco.
“Honestly we had no pace, we hoped to be faster, but there was little we could do. There will be to analyze the data, but what left me speechless was the gap that we charged from Red Bull, although my feelings aboard the car were also positive. Instead you realize that they are completely from another planet, they have made an incredible step forward here at SPA,” began a resigned Leclerc.
“We have to figure out, and hopefully we will figure it out in Zandvoort, how to get back as close to Red Bull as we were in the first half of the season. The race for the world championship? It’s starting to be very difficult, especially with the pace Red Bull showed this weekend. There is work to be done with my head down, I will try to focus race by race and try to do my best,” he concluded.
