Moto2: Lopez first win, disaster Celestino Vietti
A historic victory, but also a painful retreat.
Alonso Lopez won the Moto2 San Marino Grand Prix in Misano, picking up the first win of his career. With him on the podium are Aron Canet and Augusto Fernandez. Arenas, Ogura and Acosta followed. Seventh is Tony Arbolino, but heavy for the title race is the fall of Celestino Vietti.
The bearer of the Mooney VR46 Racing team ended up on the ground on lap nine, losing control of his Kalex collecting his second consecutive retirement. Same fate, however, for other Italian centaurs, from Lorenzo Dalla Porta to Niccolò Antonelli to Mattia Pasini.
With this missed result Vietti is now 156 points behind in the standings, with Augusto Fernandez leading at 198 points. The mission to secure the Moto2 championship title, therefore, becomes increasingly complicated.
