Croatia overwhelmed, it’s European semifinals for Setterosa
Italy is among the top four in Europe
The national women’s water polo team overwhelms host Croatia in the quarterfinals of the women’s European Championships with a, to say the least, clean sweep 16-8, thus punching their ticket to the semifinals and moving closer to the medal zone.
In Split the match is never in question: the technical gap between the two teams is impressive and at the end of the first period it is already 5-2, with Picozzi, Avegno, Cocchiere, Bettini and Giustini scoring. With the inertia of the match in their favor, the Azzurre continue to grind out play and goals: two goals by Marletta, one by Bianconi and another by Cocchiere allow Italy to fly to 9-4 at the long interval; in the second half then again Marletta, Giustini and Bettini go into the net, Tabani scores two goals, and Cergol and Galardi complete the rich Azzurro scoreboard.
Setterosa thus conquers access to the semifinals of the continental review six years after the last time, confirming that it is back at a very high level after the fourth place at the World Cup.
