F1 Ferrari: little wall still in the crosshairs, Carlos Sainz punished
Fourth reprimand for Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz, sanctioned by stewards for driving too slowly
Bad news for Carlos Sainz and Ferrari: the Spanish driver received his fourth reprimand of the season from race officials during the third free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix. The Spaniard was sanctioned for obstructing Valtteri Bottas’ car during his fast lap by driving too slowly.
Now Sainz is at risk: a penalty of ten grid positions will be triggered at the fifth reprimand, a penalty that has only happened to Yuki Tsunoda this year. In the crosshairs once again ended up the Ferrari race wall, which had been warned by race officials.
“The team was formally warned that it must be more careful in informing its drivers of the approach of the cars and that it is wrong to assume that the cars always do a cool-down lap after the push lap. In this case the driver received no information from the team about the rapid approach of the #77 car,” is the Fia note.
