Red Bull driver Max Verstappen beats Charles Leclerc: controversy over commission decision in race finale

Max Verstappen also wins at home to Ferrari, at an Autodromo di Monza packed with red fans. The Red Bull driver, with his fifth victory in a row and increasingly launched towards his second world title, triumphed in a comeback in the Italian Grand Prix: starting from seventh position, the Dutch driver took advantage of the best performance of his Red Bull and opted for a one-stop strategy and overtook poleman Charles Leclerc, who finished in second position.

Mocking finale: Daniel Ricciardo’s retirement at a dangerous spot on the track triggered the entry of the Safety Car. The regime lasted (amid booing) until the checkered flag, and thwarted any comeback attempt by Ferrari in the final laps.

Completing the podium was Mercedes driver George Russell. Fourth place for Carlos Sainz, who climbed from 18th position, then Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez.
