Jannik Sinner – Carlos Alcaraz, Volandri confesses, “I made a mistake.”
Davis Cup national team captain: “I did not expect such progress from Carlos Alcaraz.”
Filippo Volandri on the sidelines of the presentation of the Davis Cup match against Croatia spoke about Carlos Alcaraz and his victory at the Us Open that earned him the number one spot in the world ranking: “About Alcaraz I was wrong. I thought that in a couple of years he would be in the top three and instead in less than a year he is on top of the world…. I made a big mistake.”
“It’s impressive the way he burns steps, and what I like is the path and the well-structured project he has. Of course he has physical, technical, and mental characteristics that are out of the ordinary, but at the same time he works with a precise focus and achieves the goals he has set.”
Sinner, who had won the last two confrontations with the Murcian before his quarterfinal defeat at the U.S. Slam, appears to be lagging behind his rival: “It’s a very healthy rivalry that always brings them up a level, and you can see that when they meet they give life to more and more intense and hard-fought matches. I think Jannik just needs a little bit more time, but we will see more and more matches between them for important goals.”
