Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer’s great rival, through his Instagram profile, commented on the news of the Swiss racquet legend’s retirement from tennis after the Laver Cup, which will be played between Sept. 23 and 25 in London.

“Dear Roger, my friend and rival. I wish this day had never come … it is a sad day for me personally and for sportsmen around the world. I told you when we spoke and now it is here. It has been a pleasure but also an honor and a privilege to share all these years with you, experiencing so many incredible moments on and off the field. We will have many more moments to share together in the future, there are still so many things to do together, we know. For now, I really wish you all the happiness with your wife, Mirka, your children, your family, and enjoy what lies ahead. See you in London at the Laver Cup,” the Spaniard wrote in a touching message.
