Davis Cup, Jannik Sinner doesn’t hide: “Malaga? We believe in it.”
“Definitely the goal was Malaga, now we are believing in it…”
Interviewed in the center court after the painful but crucial victory he achieved in Davis against Francisco Cerundolo in the second singles match between Italy and Argentina, Jannik Sinner showed some satisfaction at having brought the match home, without failing to make an objective analysis of what went wrong in an all-too-suffering confrontation.
“Definitely I took a step forward, I gained experience. Even though I didn’t play great, I tried to be there somehow. I was helped by my team, Philip, obviously the audience. Playing at home is very special. I’m happy to have won even though I didn’t play very well, but this victory is important for Italy and it’s good,” he began at Sky Sport microphones.
“Today wasn’t easy, I tried to push, I couldn’t, there were moments when I served very well, others when I struggled more like in the second set and at the end of the third. There was a little bit of tension, but that’s part of this sport. Today Matteo played very good tennis, at a very good level, now we are ahead 2-0 and that’s what counts.”
“Definitely the goal was Malaga: now we are believing in it, and that is the most important thing. I arrived here late but I recovered physically, I tried to play good tennis, I succeeded only in spurts. On Sunday, however, there is another match we want to win, and also today’s doubles, which is of a very high level,” Sinner concluded.
