Scariolo counts the absences

In an interview granted to Il Messaggero Sergio Scariolo, coach of the European champion Spanish national team and Virtus Bologna also addressed the differences between Italy and Spain.

“Our league has improved in recent years, but it is still divided by brackets. There are marked differences in Serie A. And then weighs the absence of big cities: Rome, Turin, Genoa. In Spain, a Serie A without Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Valencia, Bilbao is unthinkable,” he pointed out.

Last season, Virtus Bologna saw the confirmation of the Scudetto won in 2021 slip away only in the playoff final, lost 4-2 to Olimpia Milano. The highlight of the Felsinians’ year, however, came on May 11, with the conquest of the Eurocup, won in the final against Turkey’s Bursaspor. This success gave Scariolo’s men a pass for the 2022-23 Euroleague season, a competition in which the Bolognese have not participated for 14 years.
