Berrettini victorious in laver cup, vs. Auger-Aliassime

Matteo Berrettini spoke after his Laver Cup match win over Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime.

“It was a great fight with Felix. He is a great player, I tried to do the best, there was balance, then super tiebreak, I am very happy at the end. I think it’s the London crowd that brings out the best in me,” said Team Europe representative

“To start today with a win was important, but the day is long, considering there is also doubles. Now it is Norrie’s turn, he is at home here, so he will have great support from the crowd. I am happy, for me and for the team, but there is still a lot to do,” continued the Roman

Then Berrettini returned to the emotions he felt on Roger Federer’s farewell night and the happiness of being present at such a significant moment for the whole tennis world: “I could not sleep after the emotions of last night, we were crying yesterday. He is the reason why I decided to become a tennis player. He may not know this, but when I was a child I tried to sneak for him on the Central Court in Rome, because he was my idol. He has done so much for me and for the sport in general, I am so happy to be here, I have goosebumps. Last night he was incredible: in particular, when he was crying leaning on my shoulder I thought, ‘Is this real?'”
