Van Vleuten a screamer, Silvia Persico takes the podium
Van Vleuten rainbowed
Dutch triumph in the women’s road race at the World Cycling Championships.
After Giro, Tour and Vuelta, Annemiek van Vleuten, despite a fractured elbow, completed a record-breaking year at 39.
In the finale, the representative of the Netherlands surprised all rivals, including our own Longo Borghini, the defending champion who entered the action that looked like it could be decisive with four others, caught with only one kilometer to go.
Italy still brought home a medal, however, with Silvia Persico finishing third.
