Metz at Lorenzo Sonego’s feet: the Turin native doesn’t hide his excitement
Great emotion for Sonego upon raising the trophy
Italian tennis is not only rejoicing over Matteo Berrettini’s presence in the Laver cup and Jannik Sinner’s upcoming return to the top 10: on Sunday afternoon, in fact, Lorenzo Sonego gave another satisfaction to Italian fans, winning the Atp 250 tournament in Metz after overcoming Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the final with a final score of 7-6(3), 6-2.
Sonego, who will enter the world’s top 50 from Monday, was honored by one of the symbols of transalpine tennis, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, fresh from retirement from competition: “It’s a very emotional moment for me,” he said, almost moved, “I’m overjoyed because I played my best tennis this week. Congratulations also to Alexander, I wish him good luck. Tsonga? He is an idol of mine, it was nice to receive the trophy from him.”
Despite the knockout, Bublik also seemed satisfied with his week in France: “It was a pleasure to play against Lorenzo,” he said, “even though I lost: we hope to meet again soon.
