Olimpia Milano-Virtus Bologna, Djordjevic leaves it all open: “I don’t know if it will turn out like always”
Serbian coach believes it will be a very competitive league
Serbian coach Sasha Djordjevic, as well as former Virtus Bologna coach, spoke, interviewed by ‘Il Corriere di Bologna’ and had his say on the upcoming Lba season, which kicks off on Oct. 1.
“It will be a very nice Serie A as always. Highly competitive, with many valuable teams. All to be discovered. I don’t know if it will always end with Milan-Virtus. I’m not good at making predictions, but there are so many other good teams. In Italy it is never easy to play against anyone. Clubs take pride and try to set up good rosters: this is a great quality of Italian basketball,” said the former leader of Panathinaikos and Bayern Munich among others.
“Currently it is the best competition in Europe so for the fans it will be great to be able to participate. However, I don’t want to forget the other trophies as well. What really matters is just doing our best to continue to make the public passionate about basketball, regardless of the level or whether they follow it live or on television,” Djordjevic continued.
Finally, a comment on the relegation of Fortitudo Bologna, a team in which he played from 1994 to 1996: “I am sorry because it is a great reality of Italian basketball, with a huge heart and crazy fans. I wish Fortitudo to come back as soon as possible, it will not be easy but this is the mission. The love in Bologna for the two clubs is something unique and I have always said so, so the whole city must be proud of it. We have to work to get the derby back.”
