Nine summoned athletes will take part from Tuesday, Jan. 10, in practice ahead of the downhill on the Lauberhorn in Wengen scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 14, preceded by a super-giant on Friday, Jan. 13. Technical director Massimo Carca has summoned Guglielmo Bosca, Mattia Casse, Christof Innerhofer, Matteo Marsaglia, Dominik Paris, Florian Scheider, Matteo Franzoso, Giovanni Franzoni and Nicolò Molteni.
Italy, in downhill only, boasts a total of 11 podiums in history in the famous Swiss resort, including four successes: Herbert Plank in 1976, Kristian Ghedina in 1995 and 1997, to Christof Innerhofer in 2013. As for placings, the Italians count three second places with Herbert Plank in 1975, Peter Rungalddier in 1994 and the last one by Dominik Paris in 2020. The Val d’Ultimo champion was also the last Italian to stand on the downhill podium in Wengen, third last year, preceded in the annals of skiing in the same position by Innerhofer in 2012, Peter Fill in 2007 and Herbert Plank in 1974.
