John Fultz died at 74: Virtus Bologna in mourning
Virtus Bologna and basketball mourn John Fultz, former Black Vs great who died at 74.
Announcing the news of his passing was his son Robert on social media: “Fly high warrior of light. Dear Papi, I can only be grateful to have had you as a friend, playmate but most of all father. Thank you for all the teachings, the good times we had together and the many challenges.”
“Thank you for choosing and accepting me as your son in this life and sharing so much with me. Your sweetness, love and smile will always be a part of me. You have taught me so much. You have always been and will remain my hero. I love you so much. Thank you.”
Fultz arrived in Italy in the ’70-’71 season as a Cup American for Varese, then three seasons with the Virtus black-and-whites, where he was renamed ‘Kociss’ for the sweatband he wore regularly: in ’72 he was the best scorer in the A series with 655 points.
This is the message from Virtus: “Virtus Pallacanestro Bologna S.p.A. joins in the condolences for the passing of John Fultz. An iconic player for Virtus Bologna in the 1970s, “Kociss” wore the V Nere jersey for three seasons, winning the Coppa Italia in the 1973-1974 season. Hello “Kociss.”
