Australian Open: Fognini and Bronzetti eliminated, Stefanini’s hit
Carmignano’s Azzurra overturns odds and advances to the second round of the Australian Open
Fabio Fognini was eliminated in the first round of the Australian Open: the Ligurian tennis player was defeated by Australian Kokkinakis, who won 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. The match resumed Wednesday after Tuesday’s stop due to rain.
In the women’s tournament, Azzurra Lucia Bronzetti was forced to surrender: the world number 52 was remounted and beaten by Germany’s Laura Siegemund with the scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Applause instead for the other Italian in the competition, Lucrezia Stefanini: the world number 41 beat in three sets 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 German Tatjana Maria, number 71 in the WTA rankink and in her tenth participation in the Australian Open. For the Carmignano tennis player there is now the very strong Russian Daria Kasatkina, number 8 in the rankings.
