Indian Wells, bitter qualifiers for Italian colors
Indian Wells, no more Italians added to the roster
There will be no Italian athletes from the qualifiers in the men’s and women’s drawboards of Indian Wells, Masters 1000 in both ATP and WTA versions.
In fact, the final rush for access to the first round of the tournament did not smile on the Tricolor, the last in order of time to fail to make it were Sara Errani and Roberto Marcora: in fact, Errani was defeated 7-6(1), 6-3 by Dutchwoman Arantxa Rus, while Marcora succumbed 6-3, 6-1 to Australian Alexandar Vukic.
That leaves five Italians in the Indian Wells men’s draw: Jannik Sinner, Matteo Berrettini, Lorenzo Sonego, Lorenzo Musetti and Fabio Fognini. There are also five women: Camila Giorgi, Jasmine Paolini, Elisabetta Cocciaretto, Martina Trevisan and Lucia Bronzetti.
