Fognini, bitter debut in Indian Wells
Fognini knocked out with Shelton
Bitter debut for Fabio Fognini at the Indian Wells Masters 1000. The Italian tennis player had to surrender to American Ben Shelton in two sets (4-6 1-6).
Fabio’s good start, which won the break in the opening game, was to no avail: the American immediately reengaged the Italian tennis player at 2-2 and then overcame him by getting the break in the 10th game, sealing the 6-4 final. There was no more match in the second set with Shelton finding more confidence in his shots while Fognini became much more foul.
Fognini thus bids farewell to Indian Wells, while Shelton enters the second round for the first time.
