Mikaela Shiffrin surpasses Stenmark: she is the most successful ever
Mikaela Shiffrin wins Are slalom and 87th career victory
Mikaela Shiffrin has officially become the all-time winningest athlete in the Alpine Ski World Cup. The U.S. star dominated the Slalom in Are, Sweden, achieving victory number 87 and thus surpassing legend Ingemar Stenmark.
The American champion mortgaged her victory with a resounding first run, then managed her lead in the second leg of the race.
Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener finished second by 92 hundredths, with Sweden’s Anna Swenn Larsson third. At the foot of the podium were American Paula Moltzan and Canadian Laurence St-Germain.
Far behind were the two Italians in the race: Marta Rossetti was the only one to finish in points, in 19th position, while Anita Gulli finished out of maximum time.
