Tirreno-Adriatico: tris for Primoz Roglic, but Slovenian doesn’t trust rivals
Roglic makes it to final stage with 18″ lead in overall
Third consecutive stage win for Primoz Roglic at Tirreno-Adriatico: after victories in Tortoreto and Sassotetto, the Slovenian of Jumbo-Visma also won on Saturday in the 193-kilometer stage with start and finish in Osimo. Beaten, in a tight sprint, Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos Grenadiers) and Joao Almeida (UAE Team Emirates).
Roglic thus retains the blue jersey as leader of the general classification, with 18″ on Joao Almeida and 23″ on Geoghegan Hart. A gap that the Slovenian himself considers too small to be able to rejoice as early as today, with a stage still to be raced on Sunday (154 km starting and finishing in San Benedetto del Tronto). “Experience teaches me that races end only when you cross the finish line of the last stage,” Roglic said on the sidelines of Saturday’s stage.
On the course of the stage and the third win in a row, Roglic added, “It was a tough day but the team was superlative. It’s crazy to have won three stages. It was a tricky stage until the end, there were a lot of riders close to me in the general classification.”
