MotoGp, Enea Bastianini confident ahead of first Gp of the season
Enea Bastianini confident: “Big step forward”
The Portimao tests showed good competitiveness from Ducati and Pecco Bagnaia. Enea Bastianini, after a decidedly negative first day, managed to redeem himself by closing day 2 close to his teammate. At the end of the session, the Romagna rider described himself as optimistic and positive ahead of the first race in Portugal.
“I am happy, it went much better than yesterday. We took a big step forward. Also, we modified the bike a little bit and this allowed me to find a better feeling. I was able to push a lot more on the front than on the first day. I am happy with the pace and also with the time attack. I’m still not at Pecco’s level, but it’s not bad,” began the Romagna rider as reported by Motorsport.
“We managed to work well and the changes made on the bike were felt. We’re still missing something to be able to fight for the win, but I think we’ve come pretty close compared to where we were. I’ve gotten to know the GP23 better, as well as the team is getting to understand more and more what I need to be competitive,” added the 1997-class rider.
“Pecco is very good at closing the throttle the right way, I’m a little more aggressive. More or less I can lap on the same times as him, but when I need that extra something I still struggle. On this track his style works better than mine, so I think I will have to try to adapt. However, I am convinced that as soon as I can get used to the Ducati better I can give him a lot of trouble like last year,” Bastianini concluded about Bagnaia.
