Guardiola’s team flies to Champions League quarterfinals
Erling Haaland lights it up, and Manchester City overwhelms Leipzig 7-0 in the return leg of the Champions League round of 16 played at Etihad Stadium.
The Norwegian bomber was on a great night and snuffed out the Germans’ ambitions with a sumptuous first half: he unblocked the match on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute, then lightning-fast doubled his header in the 24th minute, while before halftime he found the 3-0 knockout on the developments of a corner kick.
In the second half Gundogan serves up the poker in the 49th minute, then Haaland’s show resumes as he scores his fourth and fifth goals in the 55th and 58th minutes, first on tap in, then in a scrum. On the fifth goal Guardiola decides to take him off for a well-deserved standing ovation, and in the final came De Bruyne’s goal, signing the 7-0 from the edge with which the game ended. Manchester City to the quarterfinals, for Haaland 39 goals in 36 games played so far between league and cups.
