Roberto Mancini bets everything on Mateo Retegui
Roberto Mancini’s words
Mateo Retegui has indeed been summoned by Roberto Mancini for the matches against England (Thursday 23) and Malta (Sunday 26) valid for the 2024 European Championship qualifiers.
The Azzurri coach made it official to Dazn: “We had been following him for some time, he is a young guy, he has been playing as a starter in the Argentine league for two years, he has qualities that we unfortunately lack at the moment. We thought he didn’t want to come, instead he immediately said yes and so we summoned him.”
For the second edition in a row, no Italy at the final stage of the rainbow review. Failure to qualify, however, did not cost Roberto Mancini’s job with whom, it should be remembered, the Azzurri triumphed in the European championships whose semifinals and finals were played in London’s legendary Wembley Stadium. Italy has won the World Cup four times, in 1934, 1938, 1982, with Enzo Bearzot at the helm, and in 2006, when the national team’s coach was Marcello Lippi, beating Raymond Domenech’s France in the final on penalties.
