Charles Leclerc, Arturo Merzario’s opinion causes discussion
The words of Arturo Merzario
Arturo Merzario did not mince words when speaking about Charles Leclerc in an interview with Il Giornale: “I like him, but his downfall is that they made him champion even before he won the first race.”
“From the first day I saw Hamilton win at Monza in GP2 I said he would go far. Verstappen then already overtook him, but before he got there he lost a lot of races and at least a world championship because of his boyish exuberance,” added the former driver, now 80.
He closed on the unforgettable Lauda, who was fundamental to the Mercedes drivers: “He taught him that to win you also have to learn how to lose. You don’t have to prove on every lap that you are the best.”
