Federica Brignone gives Italy’s skiing a new record
Federica Brignone’s second place in Soldeu is worth so much
Federica Brignone’s second place in Soldeu is a little piece of history of her own from an individual point of view for the Valle d’Aosta woman herself as well as for Italian women’s alpine skiing. With today’s placing, in fact, Brignone gave podium number 26 in the women’s CdM season, allowing Italy to set a new record for podiums in a single year among women.
Thursday’s podium finish also allowed Brignone to consolidate her third overall place in the World Cup’s top three: that makes 56 podiums for the 32-year-old, who moves to within -13 of Gustav Thoeni (69) and -32 of the dominator of the scene in the late 1980s and 1990s, Alberto Tomba (88 for him).
“I am very satisfied: I risked everything, giving my all that was the only thing I could do. I’m very proud that I did it, I skied the way I had to,” Brignone said on the sidelines of Thursday’s race.
