Felipe Anderson deludes Lazio, AZ comes back and eliminates it
Another defeat came, and elimination from Europe.
Lazio out of the Conference League after AZ Alkmaar’s 2-1 win in the Netherlands. The “biancorossi” repeat at home the victory already achieved in Rome with the same score. For Maurizio Sarri’s men, the cup night began with Felipe Anderson’s illusory lead, later remounted by Karlsson and Pavlidis.
AZ started better, seeming to be in control of the match in the first minutes. Lazio, however, knows how to wait and make themselves lethal at the first really dangerous ball: that’s the one Felipe Anderson collects from Zaccagni in the 21st minute, then beats the ball into the net after an elegant stop. It seemed to go well for the Biancocelesti, whose joy, however, was extinguished as early as the 28th minute. Credit to Karlsson, who did it all by himself by centralizing from the left lane and beating Provedel after a loaded conclusion.
In the second half, Lazio tries to get the game back on the right track, but the tension soon shows as well. Provedel has to work hard to prevent Gila’s own goal, Basic wastes a good free kick, Felipe Anderson and Pellegrini try in vain for the goal. AZ then waits and at the right moment hurts. First Reijnders hits the post, in the 62nd minute Pavlidis signs the winning goal with a great right-footed shot on an assist from the usual Karlsson. The Capitoline team can no longer react, even suffering a second goalpost by Reijnders.
