Thanks to a peremptory solo action, Frenchman Rémi Cavagna won the first stage of the Settimana Internazionale Coppi e Bartali, a race organized by the Gruppo Sportivo Emilia that will conclude Saturday.
The 1995 Soudal-Quick Step class, former French national road and time trial champion, was 32″ ahead of the peloton at the Riccione finish line. Second place went to another Soudal-Quick Step rider, Swiss Mauro Schmid, while on the third step of the podium was Tudor Procycling Team’s Dutchman Rick Pluimers.
