Porsche in Formula 1: the return is getting further and further away

A major house gives up its return to Formula 1.

Porsche will not join the list of big engine manufacturers that will make up the Formula 1 grid starting in 2026. The Stuttgart-based manufacturer’s return to the Circus had been talked about for some time, given also the opposite choices made by Audi and Ford, as well as Honda’s reconsideration. In the meantime, however, everything seems to have changed.

In fact, ‘Quattroruote’ explains that months ago there had been important dialogues between Porsche and none other than Red Bull, which were then blown up when the German motorist proposed to take over an important stake (perhaps even majority shares) in the Formula 1 world champion team. Similar transactions had then been initiated with McLaren and Williams, without succeeding in reaching any kind of agreement.

The source then adds that Porsche will retain its interest in motorsport, focusing, however, on World Endurance and Formula E. In January there had been much talk of a possible return to Formula 1, after the social launch of the hashtag #Finally, and instead the Teutonic motorist’s last appearances in the Circus will remain the (successful) one with McLaren in the mid-1980s and the (unsuccessful) one with Footwork in 1991.
