Rasmus Hojlund enchants in Denmark: hat trick in first start
A dream hat trick in his first-ever starting appearance with his national team.
Rasmus Hojlund also enchanted Denmark, who at Copenhagen’s Parken Stadium drove to their first win on the road to Euro 2024 qualifying. In fact, the 2003-class Atalanta striker was the absolute star in the 3-1 victory with which his national team defeated Finland. And the young center forward was in his third ever appearance as well as his first as a starter.
Hojlund scored in the 21st minute with a flying left-footed deflection on Bah’s initiative on the flank, then repeated himself in the 82nd minute with a brave header from a scrum and in the 93rd minute again with a surgical left-footed shot after great control in the small area and through a forest of legs. Antman’s temporary equalizer in the 53rd minute was useless.
Hojlund thus currently has a perfect average in the Denmark jersey: 3 goals in 3 appearances. However, the first two coincide with half an hour on the field each, as a substitute in Nations League matches against Croatia and France. In his first season in Serie A, the center forward, who turned 20 in February, has already scored 7 goals in 23 appearances with Atalanta (which becomes 8 in 24 games counting also the Coppa Italia).
